Hi Guys & Gals.
This weekend divers in our inlets have been scoring good with lobsters, Manasquan produced the most.
On the South Jetty at Long Beach Island live eels have been producing some Stripers, the anglers who fished with fresh bunker did not seem to have much luck at all. .We took a ride to the Jetty late afternoon Sunday, a small school of cocktail blues came in for a short time, We can see fish breaking and birds working by the Light house on the south side of the inlet for some time, they never came close to the north side .
Some keeper Bass were caught over the weekend along the shore line, most shorts.
It’s been a good pick for skates, dog fish and Sea Robins, better then catching nothing I guess.
This time of the year We all have to work hard to find the fish or be lucky enough to be at the right place right time, We still have a few stripers around.
I did get a few calls that some decent size Blues were being caught over the weekend in northern N J, these blues were chasing bunker.
At Asbury Park the fluke bite was good but 98 % were shorts from the jettys.
Jumping back to the north Jetty at Island Beach State Park, some nice black fish were in this area, early morning late late night fishing because of the tides was more productive.
August is a great month for fluke, bluefish 2-3 lbers King Fish and croakers , why, because we’ll see some spearing and all kinds of other bait fish coming through.
I was told from a good source , My cousin Frankie Perna who fished the Casino fishing Pier Saturday said that a good number of King fish were being caught, none had crowns on their heads, maybe a lump from the sinker hitting their heads, Just kidding, they were all decent size one’s.
King Fish are very boney fish and good eating , so just make sure you get all the bones out before eating them.
I would suggest those who enjoy catching and eating king fish should start fishing for them , this is what might be stealing your bait..
King fish have small mouths so down grade your hooks to a small king fish hook, you have nothing to lose do you?, better ten catching nothing.
Croakers should start showing up soon, as soon as I hear anything I will inform you all.
The best of luck to all.
Guppie
