Hi Guys & Gals. I urge My readers to write to the council asking for a fluke season that last through September May 17th 0 October 17th .
Their address is P.O. Box 400, Trenton, N.J. 08625-0400.
Here are the choices
Below are the four proposals that have been approved.
1.) 17 ½” size limit, June 28 –Sept. 8, two fish limit.
There will be very little support for this as the season is too short and the bag limit is too small. Not many fishermen will go on charter or party boats with only a 2 fish limit.
While larger fish might be a little harder to come by, with a bag limit of 8, fishermen will at least have a chance to fill their coolers with a nice catch every once in a while.
2.) 17 ½” size limit, July 4th – Sept. 2, 8 fish bag limit.
Fishermen will be screaming because the season begins far too late and ends way too early.
3.) 18” size limit, May 24th – Sept. 8th, 8 fish bag limit.
This will be the favored option by many but the season ends too early.
4.) 18 ½” size limit, May 17th – Oct. 17th, 8 fish bag limit
This will be favored by many of the private boat fishermen, a number of charter and party boats as well as surfcasters. In my opinion 18 ½” size limit, May 17th – Oct. 17th,with a 5 fish bag limit would have been an option but this bag limited was not addressed.
Heck if we catch two fish a day that would be a lot, there were not many keepers caught 2007 from the surf as I spent many days and hours at IBSP. Most keepers were either caught on the North Jetty and in the inlet towards the back of Island Beach State park. From what I was told the council will make their decision on this year's fluke regulations at their March 6th meeting, So please it takes 5 minutes to get your letter out, We still have time . I sent mine out did you ?
