Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ) will be holding a rally at 1 p.m. tomorrow in Seaside Heights to gather support for the bill he's introducing to allow flexibility in fisheries management under the Magnuson-Stevens Fisheries Conservation and Management Act. The site will be the Boardwalk at Sherman Avenue. The rain location is at Aztec Ocean Resort alcove or sundeck, located at 901 Boardwalk.
Also speaking at the rally will be state Sen. John Adler, who'll be introducing a resolution in support of Pallone's bill, John De Persenaire, Fisheries Researcher for the Recreational Fishing Alliance (RFA), Greg DiDomenico, executive director of the Garden State Seafood Association, and Tom Fote, legislative director of the Jersey Coast Anglers Association (JCAA).
The Save the Summer Flounder Fishery Fund (SSFFF), the non-profit organization formed to seek scientific solutions to the crises facing those whose livelihoods depend on a healthy recreational fluke fishery has announced the hiring of internationally recognized fisheries biologist Mark Maunder. Maunder, whose research focuses on the development of statistical methodology for fisheries stock assessment, protected species and ecological modeling, will both review the current Summer Flounder Stock Assessment and methodologies, and attend the upcoming Stock Assessment Workshop in June. Maunder is currently a senior scientist at the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission.
