Hi Guys & Gals At 7 Pm last night I got a phone call, took the phone in the bed room chatted for about a half hour, hung up the phone and next thing I knew it was 2 am in the morning, Got up, took a quick shower and back to La la world I quickly went just work up about 8 AM this morning, Sorry againBetween taking a few rides to the beach, Don & I cleaned up the winter mess on my front lawn, taking down all the Christmas decorations I guess it all caught up with me. We Took a ride to Island Beach State Park yesterday, We fished a few bars, met up with Timmy and a few other anglers, Hi Squid from PA, it was a pleasure meeting you and your friend. I did meet up with Glitter plug Ron who told me he had peanut Bunker on the beach yesterday, which His creditability is excellent. We drove in at area 7 and sure enough there was a pod of small peanut bunker about 1 ½ “ long with in casting range, no fish on them, plugged for a while in different areas and not a nibble. I spoke to several anglers which one said he had 2 shorts earlier. I also spoke to pat and his Buddy that said south of 23 was good for stripers for the past few days just before dark. We drove down to the inlet and saw a few more pods of peanut bunker again no fish on them. I thought it was strange to see peanut bunker this time of the year, but it is true. Last year the last striper that was caught by Timmy day From Brick was January 13th, He came in second place at Grumpys Bait & tackle shop in the polar bear tournament, won a good amount of money that paid for his gas a good part of the year, After that the beached just emptied out , not many angler put much effort in to fishing , same as this year.
I do understand the gas prices are way out of line $2.89 a gall, might as well say $3.00, it’s crazy and riding the beach as we know now can be costly. I don’t know when we’ll head back to the beach after using a half a tank in three days we need a break, it costs us $75.00 to fill our tank when almost empty. I would say the lack of fish and the gas prices are keeping anglers away and I can’t say I blame them. is there Stripers around, most likely, with these water temperatures they do not feed as well, cold water makes stripers lazy, sluggish, that’s why in the spring if you all noticed these stripers have long thin torsos and big heads from not eating all winter.. Till I hear of any report, The best of Luck to all. Guppie & Don
