Hi Guys & Gals.
There has been some good cocktail Bluefish action north of Sandy Hook and in Raritan Bay.
I was told that rain fish were all over the place.
We now have bait moving along the shore line from sandy hook to IBSP, it's a matter of being at the right time right place, most fish and bait are staying out beyond surf anglers reach, We can never tell what may happen.
It's this time of the year when it can be a dead sea and WHAM all hell breaks loose.
Fishing on Jettys and channels if you have a boat have been having good fluke action, if the currents are not to rough , anglers have been getting some decent size fluke. There has been a good pick of Black fish on the North Jetty, along with a lot of throw back fluke, I have been told that short stripers in the 24" size have been hitting the north Jetty.
Today with a light N-east wind it might be worth fishing this weekend.
I have heard some people complain about people & anglers with campers just hanging out on the Beach at Island Beach state Park doing nothing, I have been there many days, enjoying IBSP with many anglers, no one can expect any one to be fishing a 7-24, plus the fact the fishing stunk for two months, I don't care how many pole you have in the water, if the fish are not there they just are not. Island Beach State park is for all of us to enjoy, anglers meeting other anglers, enjoying the views of the inlet, maybe watching other anglers fish, which is quite interesting at times, come on down and meet these anglers with campers, you'll love them. Lots of anglers who have been hanging by the North Jetty waiting for a good day of fishing keep busy, catching and releasing sea bass, black fish , short fluke, snappers, they do take a break in between, most anglers keep hoping they might hook a nice keeper fluke before the season ends.
With the gas prices coming down I can see more traffic at Island Beach State park with in the last week, it's always nice to see anglers enjoying what I call one of the most enjoyable beaches in this area.
Most people are friendly, of course there can be a bad apple in a bushel.
The beach has been kept nice and clean, I seldom see any trash on this beach , which is excellent.
As long as we all obey the rules and regulation, the Rangers are great.
29 years fishing at Island Beach State Park I have never had any sort of a problem with any of then , which are NJ State Police.
Fishing the North Jetty can be tough at times, especially with a rough N-East wind so be careful, and never go out there at night alone.
This is just a reminder for those who are planning on spending the next few weeks at Island Beach State Park, bring along your casting net, a few extra buckets, a few snagging rigs, some small cast masters for hooking snappers, the fluke love live snappers, and above all if your going to start fishing the inlet and the jetty, please bring along a big fishing net with a long handle.
A week ago when the anglers who caught the two big fluke would not have pulled then over the rocks if they did not have the net, it just happened that the day before they caught the fluke, Gary's son left his net in his Dads truck, and thanks to a great angler Mike, ( Pie Man) who went for the net for his fellow anglers, nothing like team work .
So Far it's been a few gorgeous days, lets hope it continues for the weekend.
I wish I had a better report then this, soon the good fishing will begin, something has to give with all this bait in and out in this area. The Best Of Luck To All. Guppie & Don. Remember watch you pole when in the water if your going to dead stick, We still have some mighty big sharks and Rays out there.!
